Agenda 2010
Leading Where It Counts!
Continuing our mission to bring greater accountability to the people of Illinois, we are proud to unveil our plan for the next year!
Our Mission
A Healthy Illinois:
Illinois citizens live in the fifth largest state in the country, containing one of the largest economic capacities across the land. With this tremendous wealth comes opportunity and expectation, there needs to be a greater commitment to increasing the standard of living. We must work harder to meet the basic needs of our citizens and ensure that Illinois is a clean, safe, and secure place of living. Towards this mission, we will begin to build networks for the following:
- Prevention Awareness-We will cooperate with local communities and leaders to help curb future costs from the most preventable and costly of illnesses stemming from diet, physical activity and smoking.
- Administrative Reform-Illinois can save vast amounts of money by building better bridges of communication between health care providers. We will begin the effort by constructing a system of health that the 21st century demands.
An Honest System:
Government in Illinois is broken. It serves special interests and not the public good. To combat this, we are promoting an agenda which includes a number of reform ideas. This is not a matter of red vs. blue; it is about ensuring that the political system is set up for everyday people with everyday concerns and this is the place to begin the discussion on how best to do that. We put forward a series of ideas because we know that the forces of the status quo will begin at once the process of subtraction, knocking off as many options as possible. So, we want to come to the table with a full deck of cards because Illinois citizens should not have to compromise with corruption!
- Voter Registration- We will bring more people into the process of politics with an initial goal of registering 100,000 people to vote.
- Put Back Amendment-We will work to champion this Amendment in order to give people across this state the ideas they need to fix their government.
- Real Recall-The right of recall is fundamental to any democracy; we will work to ensure that Illinois voters have a real recall mechanism that puts voters in charge instead of special interests.
Equal Justice:
If the symbol of our nation is an adherence to democracy, then surely it lies on a foundation of justice. We should match our unlimited capacity to imagine, design, and produce with an effort to rid all hurdles to justice, all enjoyments of democracy. Once again we must reaffirm the notion that a society is measured by how it treats the least among us-those people that are too often marginalized, too often subjugated, too often cast into the shadows of our lives. Towards this end we will work towards the passage of the following bills:
- Jasmine’s Law
- Family Court Act
- Domestic Violence Assistance Act
A Stronger Future:
In society, we can go only so far as we prepare and equip our children. It is time to view them not as an obligation to be passed off but as a treasure to be valued. In the coming months and years, we will be more ready to face the challenges of our time if we realize the power we already have in our midst by harnessing the power of every child! Our Children’s Rights Campaign includes the following:
- Childhood Poverty, Abuse, and Safety Awareness- The success of our future is built upon the investment we make in our children. We will work with leaders and organizations that desire to change the way our children are treated.
Our Path
The road ahead will not be easy or smooth. There are many that wish to continue the battles of the past and do not realize we need a new game with new rules. At Main Street Campaigns we will begin to lead where it counts. Towards this effort we offer this plan but more efforts to break the status quo will follow-and hopefully those ideas will come from you too! To get there, we need to focus on organizing and building a public presence. The first will take the form of recruiting and training volunteers; the second will involve letter writing, door knocking, social networking and sign making. And much, much more! Let’s work to make 2010 a year for the people of Illinois.
